6 Best Home Remedies for Swollen Gums

Home Remedies For Swollen Gums 

1. Swishing saltwater 

Warm about one glass of water, don’t boil it. Pour into a glass and put about one tablespoonful of salt to it. Mix the salt with lukewarm water.  

Swish the water in your mouth for a few minutes and then spit when you are done. Do not swallow the water.

Repeat the remedy twice a week. The saltwater will kill the bacteria in your mouth that causes swollen gums. 

2. Hot or warm compression 

 

Hot compression

Warm some water, don’t boil. Take a clean cloth and dip it into the hot water. Squeeze the excess water and gently compress the area of your face near to the gums where the pain is feeling. Do not directly compress the gums. 

Cold compression

Take a clean cloth and wrap the ice pack with it. Gently compress the area of your face the same as above. You can choose which you are comfortable with. Either you can try alternatively the both until your pain eases up.  

3. Analgesic paste 

Our daily-used spices from the kitchen have a lot to do with home remedies. The clove is considered an analgesic and turmeric is an anti-inflammatory. The combination of both will subside your gum pain soon. For a quick relief mix both clove and turmeric powder with lukewarm water until it shapes a paste. 

Apply directly to your gums and rinse out with water after some time. 

You can use it regularly or when you feel pain. 

4. Aloe vera gel 

Aloe vera is helpful in the removal of dental plaque. According to the study of 2011, it was found that aloe could improve the symptoms of periodontal diseases by killing the bacteria. 

What you need to do is extract some amount of aloe from a leaf of aloe and put it on your gums. Leave for as long as you want and then rinse with water. 

5. Ginger paste

Gingerol, the active constituent of ginger, has anti-inflammatory properties and helps in the deactivation of harmful bacterias in gum diseases. 

Smash a small piece of ginger and mix with half a spoon of salt until it forms a paste. Then, rub your gums with the paste for about 12 minutes and rinse with water. 

For better results apply it 2-3 each day. Ginger is a good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory treats it gently. 

6. Baking soda 

Baking soda is used as a household cleaner is a good antibacterial. You can either start to brush your teeth with baking soda for swollen gums or make a paste of turmeric and gently apply it to the swollen areas. Massage over your gums for a while and rinse off with water.

Try this every morning and evening, until it leaches out your infection.
